There are actually several branches now just in Boston of this pleasant, simple seafood place.  Don’t expect original cooking but the fish is fairly fresh and the preparation consistent, so in my experience it usually delivers what it promises at a fair price. The mustard tuna starter is my favourite dish here.

I grew up in Boston and ate at Legal many times. Grand gourmet 3 Michel star dining at $200+ a person it is not. The finest FRESH seafood you can get short of catching it yourself it is.If what you want is simply the very best the ocean has to offer, Legal is the place to go.

I took my wife to this restaurant, and we found that she liked seafood, she just didn't like bad seafood. I've used it to discover that I do not like soft shell crab (If I don't like their's, I don't like it.) They set a useful standard. not the best, not perfect, but very good indeed. The smoked bluefish pate is very good, as is the bluefish with mustard sauce. They also have a branch at Logan airport, which is useful when traveling in or out of Boston.
