Kisaku means “casual” or “homely”, though the décor in this neighbourhood Japanese restaurant is quite smart, with wooden floor and careful lighting. Classical piano music (Chopin today) played quietly in the background.

I tried chicken tempura, which was served on a bed of very thin potato chips, and was pleasant with a decent batter, though the chicken had a sauce that was just a touch sweet (2/10). Eel was served on a bed of rice in barbecue sauce, the eel carefully cooked, though again the sauce was just a touch sweeter than it should be (2/10).

Service was very good indeed, friendly and efficient. This is a good local restaurant, with prices just a touch higher than I expected; for example it is costlier than Kiraku in Ealing, yet it is not in the same league of cooking as this. Still, in Chiswick Kisaku is one of the best Japanese restaurant offerings, admittedly in an area with few of them.
