The Jamavar is on the ground floor of the Leela Mumbai hotel.  The dining room had a black slate floor and lacquer screens, contributing to a smart, modern feel.  Tandoori malai murgh (R625) was quite tender and lightly spiced (3/10).  Lashoni crab (R950) was a brown crab meat mixed with shredded onions and spices, with a texture and appearance almost like a risotto, though no rice was involved.  It was pleasant though perhaps an acidic element would have helped; it was also a pity that they had not properly sifted through the crab meat to remove pieces of shell (2/10).

Tandoori lobster (R1275) had the meat scooped out, cooked in the tandoor with spices and then placed back in its shell.  It was tender and enjoyable, though it was not a very large lobster given the quite high price.  Black dhal was a little watery in texture (1/10).

Aloo methi was nicely made, the texture of the potatoes being retained well, and enlivened by a little ginger (3/10).  Romali roti (R125) was lovely (4/10) and naan was excellent, supple and soft in texture (5/10).  Tandoori potatoes were stuffed with cheese and cashew nuts before being cooked in the tandoor, and this worked well (3/10).

Overall this was very enjoyable, though the price is a little high.  However it is not in the league of its sister, the Jamavar in Goa.

The bill was R6360 between two.
