Alice Waters invented Californian cooking but this place is now a shadow of its former self, still knocking out the dishes but this was such a time-warp it almost felt like a tourist place when I visited. It was pleasant enough, and the cooking was at least simple, but based on this meal only food history buffs need bother to make the trip over the bridge to Berkeley.
