Tonight, the malai tikka was tender, the marinade of the chicken nicely suffused into the meat, though this version was not quite as well made as ones I recall from earlier visits (13/20). Achari prawns were also good, the prawns carefully cooked and well spiced (14/20).

Biriani is a speciality of the restaurant, and both prawn and chicken versions were good tonight. The chicken pieces were moist, the rice fragrant (14/20). Cauliflower with fenugreek was cooked a little longer than ideal so the cauliflower had lost some of its texture, but the fenugreek spicing was vibrant (13/20). Yellow dhal was quite good, not being too watery (13/20). Romali roti was excellent, very light (15/20). Portions here are vast, but they will pack up what you cannot finish. The food was between 13/20 and 14/20 level overall.

With the restaurant manager Ajay and his deputy manager off this evening, service was not its usual slick self, with a long delay in getting the starter and the bread forgotten. Small things, but it was interesting how the service was much less good than usual without the regular managers on duty. The bill came to £39 a head, with beer and lassi to drink.
