Madhu’s is set over two floors in a parade of shops in Southall. As the largest Indian wedding caterer in the UK, the restaurant is these days effectively a showcase for the cooking of the company. It always seems packed, and is unusually smartly decorated by Southall standards. Be aware that parking around here can be tricky.

Achari prawns are large, and yet very carefully cooked, tender and with a well-balanced spicy marinade (14/20). Murgh malai tikka is marinated with spices and cheese to tenderise it before being cooked in the tandoor, the resulting flavour subtle and the meat having a pleasing, soft texture (14/20). Another good dish was fried cauliflower florets (13/20)

Biryani is particularly good at Madhu’s, and the prawn biryani tonight had delicate, fragrant rice and carefully cooked prawns (14/20). Naan bread was pleasant but not qiute as supple as I like (12/20) and I preferred the bhatura (13/20).

With restaurant manager Ajay Sighat returned from an extended trip to India, the service was back to its usual smooth self this evening.
