The younger but smarter sister to Madhu’s in Southall continues to produce excellent Punjabi food. The key to the success of the kitchen here is the robata grill, which imparts a subtle smoky note to the dishes that are made using it. These include the fabulous lamb chops, which are as good as any I have had (15/20).

Chicken tikka at my most recent visit was fine, though perhaps not quite in the same league as many of the other dishes here (13/20). Methi gobi is one of the stalwart dishes, the cauliflower florets keeping their texture and having lovely flavour imparted from the robata grill, as well as from the fenugreek it is cooked with (15/20). Tandoori prawns were tender with a nicely balanced mix of spices (14/20). Makhani dhal is a traditional black dhal, and is made very well here, with deep, rich flavour (14/20). They also make my favourite Indian bread, romali roti, ultra-thin and folded over many times on a hot steel hemisphere (14/20).

Service was very professional, and the bill tonight, with plenty of beer to drink, was just £36 a head, a real bargain. The busy room of almost entirely Indian diners suggests that I am not alone in thinking this.
