Cepages (pictured) is a neighbourhood brasserie and wine bar in Notting Hill serving French food in a small plates format. The best dishes at my meal were very good indeed, such as a rich ox cheek dish and an excellent fennel tarte tatin. Not everything was to this level, but this was quite an impressive meal, with some genuine highlights.

Cocochine is a regular haunt of mine, a restaurant that has access to some dazzling ingredients since one of its investors owns a large farm and an island in Scotland with a fishing port. This means that Cocochine can pick and choose the finest scallops, langoustines, turbot, venison and more from these sources. Add in the strong technical skills of the chef, and the unusual mix of French classical cooking with Sri Lankan touches, and you have some of the most interesting food in the capital.
